A Brief History Of Humankind!
Here is a brief and beautiful description of four well-known subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History.
It shows their interrelationships as well as the chronological order of their beginnings, giving us a sense of perspective of how we have been living on this planet!
- Physics: About 14 billion years ago, matter, energy, time and space came into being in what is known as the Big Bang. The story of these fundamental features of our universe is called physics.
- Chemistry: About 300,000 years after their appearance, matter and energy started to coalesce into complex structures, called atoms, which then combined into molecules. The story of atoms, molecules and their interactions is called chemistry.
- Biology: About 4 billion years ago, on a planet called Earth, certain molecules combined to form particularly large and intricate structures called organisms. The story of organisms is called biology.
- History: About 70,000 years ago, organisms belonging to the species Homo sapiens started to form even more elaborate structures called cultures. The subsequent development of these human cultures is called history.
This is from the first page of the celebrated book that I am currently reading 'Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind' by Yuval Noah Harari.
Harari says that 70,000 years ago, there were at least six different human species on earth, whereas, today, there is only one human species left, viz Homo sapiens.
Thanks to Rolf Becker, Founder and CEO of GeoDyn Technology, for gifting me this thrilling account of our extraordinary history!!
