Tectonic Shift in Islamic World!

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has laid out a new grand vision to usher in dramatic changes in the education system of the nation by introducing teaching of Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata in his country's school curriculum.

As part of the Vision 2030 of the Saudi Crown Prince, other significant elements of Indian culture like Yoga and Ayurveda will also form part of the daily life of its citizens, according to media reports. Other major reforms that the Prince has already introduced include:
  • officially allowing women to drive cars
  • officially approving the teaching of Yoga as a sports activity
  • practicing naturopathy as a holistic approach to health and well-being
  • stopping of funding mosques in foreign countries
  • restricting volume of loudspeakers at mosques and using it only for call to prayer and not for broadcasting sermons
More than six years back, Khalaf Al-Harbi, a liberal columnist and a thinker from Saudi Arabia, has described India as the most tolerant nation in the whole world. He wrote:

"No matter how other countries speaks, India remains the oldest and the most important country to teach tolerance, peace and coexistence regardless of the religious, social, political or ethnical differences."

He also tells the Arab people that India is a melting pot of cultures and that diversity and beliefs are in the DNA of Indian culture. It was Nouf Marwaai, Saudi Arabia's first certified Yoga instructor and founder of the Arab Yoga Foundation, who was instrumental in getting Yoga officially approved by the Government.

At a young age Ms Marwaai was diagnosed with lupus and cancer, which she bravely fought and defeated with the regular practice of Yoga and Naturopathy. Marwaai's heroic efforts were rewarded with India's fourth-highest civilian honor Padma Shri in Aug 2018.

These dramatic shifts in policies to modernize the country by separating politics and religion will produce a new generation of world-class citizens who feel good about themselves with self-esteem and self-confidence as well as a forward-looking belief and a balanced view of religion.

It takes real courage and conviction to challenge the archaic religious norms governing the Saudi society for centuries. Now that the Saudi Prince has set in motion a gigantic tectonic shift in the ultra-conservative religious landscape of Saudi Arabia, it will have a major positive impact not just in that country but all over the Pan-Islamic world.

My humble pranams to the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman! 🙏
