My contemporaries belong to a generation that heavily depended on the Postal Department for our communication. Compared to the instant WhatsApp communication today, we belonged to a dinosaur era that had its own charm.
In those bygone days we used to pen our thoughts carefully on paper using legible handwriting, go to a post office to buy an envelope, write the address of our friend or relative on it, insert our hand-crafted letter in it, seal the envelope by licking the adhesive flap, and then put it in the post box hanging on the wall - all with the full confidence that the precious letter will reach the recipient whether he / she is ten miles off or thousands of miles away in another country.
Here is such a vintage letter that I wrote to my wife @Vasantha Unnikrishnan from Boston, USA on 25 April 1982 and reached its destination Bangalore, India on 21 May 1982, at a cost of 30 US cents!

India Post Modernization
In Dec 2022, the 'Information Technology Modernization Project 2.0' of the Department of Posts was approved by the Government with an outlay of ₹5,785 crore for a period of eight years. This Project combines applications, intelligent platforms, and interconnected ecosystems to provide an inclusive, integrated single-window view of postal and financial services to its stakeholders through multiple delivery channels.
All the 25,000+ Departmental Post Offices have been computerized and networked. The Department has also modernized 130,000 Branch Post Offices in the rural areas of the country by providing SIM-card based hand-held point-of-sale devices for providing a variety of postal and financial services.

Communications Technology
The digital tools including software, devices, and messaging systems that we use to send and receive information today make communication fast, efficient, convenient, and easy to use. However, like any other technology, communications technology is also being misused in several ways.
For example, today's communication through mobile, WhatsApp, and other social media is so instant that, as soon as the bombs of Hamas terrorists touched the ground of Israel, the governments, groups, and individuals started expressing their opinions, taking sides!
Today, we also have another type of communication that is not so instant but acts like slow poison eating away the fabric of citizens' collective consciousness and corroding the integrity and sovereignty of our nation. These are done by individuals who have no feeling of guilt or remorse in using their effective communication skills in a seditious manner, for short-term wealth and fame, by accepting money from our enemy country.
