Falling In Love - Several Times!

A grandson once asked his 80‑year‑old grandfather:

“Grandpa… how did you manage to love Grandma, the same woman, for sixty long years?”

Symbolic representation of 7 phases.

The boy expected lessons in patience, compromise, or heartfelt honesty. But the old man simply smiled, looked tenderly at his wife, and with a mischievous wink, answered his grandson:

“What makes you think I loved the same woman for sixty long years?”

These words left the grandson deeply confused. With a gentle smile, the grandfather went on to explain:

  • In my twenties, my heart belonged to a vibrant girl, radiating joy and youthful charm.
  • By my thirties, I was captivated by a devoted mother, staying up through the quiet hours to comfort our sleeping child.
  • In my forties, I admired a resilient partner who carried our family’s challenges with quiet dignity.
  • By my fifties, I fell for a compassionate woman who willingly set aside her own aspirations to secure our children’s tomorrow.
  • In my sixties, I leaned on a true bosom friend whose single look could ease my deepest unspoken anxieties.
  • By my seventies, my affection turned to a tender protector who watched over my health with daily care.
  • And now, in my eighties, I am in love with my lifelong companion, walking softly by my side as we joyfully revisit our past life.

The young boy remained quiet, taking in the old man's words. The grandfather then concluded:

“A lasting marriage isn't built on finding a partner who never changes. Rather, it is the wondrous path of encountering fresh, beautiful layers of the very same soul, and choosing to love every single one as time goes by.”

As appearances alter, days turn to years, and the world moves forward, the true magic of sixty years comes alive if you can look through each passing stage and still declare with absolute certainty, “She is my chosen one.

The grandson listened in silence.  Finally, the grandfather said:

“True marriage does not mean living with a person who remains completely unchanged. Instead, it is the beautiful journey of discovering new versions of the exact same soul, and falling in love with each one of them, time after time.”

Time marches on, circumstances change, and beauty transforms.

If, amid every transformation, you are still able to murmur, “She is my beloved”... therein lies the mystery of sixty shared years.

True love is not a single fall into affection, but the enchanting art of surrendering to the same soul again and again endlessly, through each shifting season of life.

The notion of “falling in love with the same woman so many times” touches the essence of what love truly is: not a single event, but a continuous unfolding. Love is not a static possession; it is a dynamic perception, a rhythm between constancy and change.
