US Indians Heading Public & Private Sector Establishments

PM Modi's visit to the Silicon Valley brought together several dozen Fortune 500 CEOs of American companies on a common platform. All Indians should be thankful to President Barack Obama who first publicly acknowledged the immense talent and potential of the three-million strong community ..

.. and appointed a record number of accomplished Indian-Americans to key positions in his administration.

These include, just to name a few:
  • Dr. Vivek Murthy - Surgeon General of USA;
  • Rajiv Shah - Administrator of USAID;
  • Azita Raji - Member, President's Commission on White House Fellowship;
  • Islam Siddiqui - Chief Agricultural Negotiator;
  • Vinai Thummalapally - US Ambassador to Belize;
  • Vivek Kundra - first Chief Information Officer of USA;
  • Richard Verma - US Ambassador to India;
  • Vikram Singh - Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia (SSEA);
  • Preet Bharara - US Attorney, Southern District of New York;
  • Subra Suresh - Director, National Science Foundation;
  • Paula Gangopadhyay - Member, National Museum and Library Services Board;
  • Sonny Ramaswamy - Director, National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
It is this public and authentic acknowledgment and recognition by the US Government that prompted many private sector companies to follow suit and appoint Indians into CEO positions.

Today, after Americans, there are more Indian-origin CEOs than any other nationality in S&P 500 companies. These include:
  • Satya Nadella - Microsoft;
  • Sundar Pichai - Google;
  • Shantanu Narayen - Adobe;
  • Rajeev Suri - Nokia;
  • Francisco D’Souza - Cognizant;
  • Ivan Menezes - Diageo;
  • Sanjay Jha - Global Foundries;
  • Nikesh Arora - SoftBank Internet;
  • Sanjay Mehrotra - SanDisk;
  • George Kurian - NetApp;
  • Indra Nooyi - PepsiCo;
  • Ajay Banga - Master Card;
  • Dinesh Paliwali - Harman International;
