Digital Interface to Real World!

Last evening I forgot my mobile phone while going out for my walking routine.

Consequently, the kilometers I walked, the total time duration, calories burned, number of steps taken, my average pace, the route I followed - all these have gone unrecorded in my digital life. See the results of today's walk to understand what a great loss it was!

I think of a day (probably not in my lifetime!) when a new born, even before the Hepatitis B vaccine is given on the first day, will have a microchip embedded under its skin providing a unique identification number as well as a digital interface to the real world (no more voluntary Aadhar registration!).

The chip will record all the health parameters of the child including the vaccinations taken, remind parents about forthcoming vaccinations schedules, the scholastic records of the child, the food preferences.. in fact everything about the child.

Even today, it has become common for many parents to buy a device that kept track of their child’s location. Also, in order to successfully thwart kidnappers, many millionaires are already chipping their kids.

When the kid is ready for a mobile phone, with an appropriate screen interface, the chip will be your mobile! By then you will be completely connected to everything around you, as all things would have acquired some intelligence through IoT (Internet of Things) technology.

As you grow the chip will store information about your credit cards, driving license, passport, various access cards. It will let you pay for your purchases, provide access to the places in your work environment, keep track of the places you visited, the food you consumed, and help in ordering items as it will know all about your preferences for food, books, entertainment...

When you need medical attention, even if you are brought unconscious to the hospital, a scan of your chip will retrieve information about the antibiotics you had taken in the past, any medicines you are allergic to, the medication you are currently on, etc. to let the doctor offer you the right treatment in a timely manner.

This may sound like an Orwellian nightmare but I think it is going to be a reality sooner than you think!
