BESCOM Name Transfer Without Bribe!
Karnataka occupies the first slot in a list of states perceived to be corrupt on the basis of people's experience in paying bribes for public services, a survey conducted by an NGO in 2017 has revealed.
However I would like to share my positive experience with the Bangalore Electric Supply Company, BESCOM.
In the BESCOM electricity bill I had to change the name from that of the builder to mine. According to different users' experience shared in social media there are agents who will do this for you and they charge as much as Rs. 4000/-. At the same time, I also found the complete details of the name change process documented by Raveesh Kumar here:
Accordingly, I filled the application form and attached all the required documents. I went to the nearby BESCOM office on 24th Main Rd, HSR Layout Sector 2 with lot of apprehension. I approached a person sitting in a room all by himself, as all the other officials in the big hall were busy attending to customers.
This young man, Sanjeev Sagar, welcomed me with a smile, scanned through my application and the attachments, explained to me the various steps to be completed. The whole job was concluded within an hour. This happened on 17th Jan and I was told that the name change will be reflected in the next electricity bill. I just couldn't believe that the whole process went so smoothly without any intervention of an agent.
Promptly, the next bill had my name on it. I went to the office again to thank Sanjeev Sagar for the proactive help he rendered. He brushed it off modestly by saying they were just doing their duty. He also informed me that the procedure is further simplified; now, we do not have to visit the Karnataka State Licensed Electrical Contractors Association office nearby to procure the Indemnity Bond and Power Supply Agreement that are to be attached to the application form.
I would like to thank Chandru R - AAO, Sanjeev Sagar - Assistant as well as all the other staff at the BESCOM S11 office for the excellent service they are rendering to the public.
