Stop This Short-sighted Pursuit!
This is an earnest request to the President of the BJP and to the head of RSS to reign in the fanatical and overenthusiastic elements of the BJP and RSS outfits, who are going on a suicidal mission to destroy the plural and peaceful traditions of Hinduism and Hindutva.
In all religions, it is always the small fringe and frenzied groups who are causing problems to the majority of the members. But when this happens to the largest religious community in India, the consequences are also equally massive and extremely serious. Because of the sheer numbers involved, any inflammatory, and hate-mongering rhetoric that the radical groups of the majority religious community indulges in, is blown out of proportion to attract national attention compared to the similar acts of the minority communities that often gets place only in local news.
This is the reason why the academics and intelligentsia of the national and international community criticizes the current ruling dispensation by calling it as a Hindu nationalistic government. BJP and RSS need to realize this disproportionate negative attention that they are drawing to themselves, and act more intelligently and responsibly to come out of this morass. Otherwise, they are directly playing into the hands of the radical elements of the minority community.
Any retaliatory measures being planned by the Central Government against PM Modi's security breach needs to be viewed in this larger context. Though the media calls it euphemistically as 'security breach' it was nothing but a brazen attack to cause bodily harm to the PM of the country. Consequently there is a major hue and cry by the BJP/RSS cadres to take strong action against the humiliation, embarrassment, and threat caused to the PM.
Instead of falling pray to a well-planned, seditious, and provocative act of the opposition parties and strike back impulsively, I hope wise counsel will prevail among the senior leaders of the Modi Government to take a dispassionate, unemotional, and balanced response.
