Yet today, that role is being twisted into something far more destructive: a posture of relentless hostility that threatens the very foundations of India’s democratic order.

From Watchdog to Wrecking Ball

Opposition to the Government is vital. It ensures accountability, exposes flaws, and offers alternatives. But when every government move is met with automatic rejection, the LoP ceases to be a watchdog and becomes a wrecking ball. Constructive dissent is replaced by reflexive obstruction, leaving governance paralyzed and citizens disillusioned.

Silence of the Seniors

The tragedy is not only in one man’s reckless stance, but in the collective abdication of responsibility by senior leaders like #AbhishekManuSinghvi and #ShashiTharoor. Instead of guiding, correcting, or restraining, they have chosen blind allegiance. Their silence converts individual folly into institutional complicity, eroding the credibility of opposition itself.

A Rallying Point for Hostile Forces

By positioning himself as the focal point of agitation, the LoP risks becoming the rallying figure for forces hostile to India’s sovereignty. Domestic opportunists and external adversaries alike find in him a convenient ally. What should have been a patriotic counterbalance to government power mutates into a coordinated campaign against national interest.

Democracy at the Brink

The precedent being set the opposition parties is perilous. If opposition is equated with sabotage, then democracy itself is imperiled. Institutions weaken, governance stalls, and adversaries—internal and external—grow emboldened. The LoP’s trajectory risks normalizing the sacrifice of national interest at the altar of personal ambition, leaving behind a legacy of democratic decay.

The Verdict

India’s democracy thrives on debate, not destruction. The LoP’s role must be reclaimed as one of responsible dissent, not reckless hostility. Senior leaders must rediscover their duty to the nation, lest their silence become complicity in the erosion of the very system they claim to defend.  

An Earnest Appeal

Honourable Members of Parliament, guardians of our democracy, I, an ordinary citizen, stand before you with a heartfelt plea. The Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha are not merely legislative chambers — they are the very sanctum of our democratic spirit.

If there exists within our Constitution any mechanism to relieve the present Leader of the Opposition of his charge, I urge you to act swiftly. Delay will only invite further erosion of the dignity and stature of that office — an office meant to embody the conscience of the nation.

Let not the temple of our democracy be diminished by inaction. Let us preserve its sanctity by ensuring that its pillars remain strong, its voices remain credible, and its leadership remains worthy of the trust reposed in it by the people of India.
