Best Institutions of Governance

Yesterday, there was a strategic visit in India by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Along with this news, there is also the announcement of a new Cabinet in UAE, with a very progressive, bold, and challenging approach. Apart from traditional posts it has Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Minister of State for Tolerance, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Minister of State for Happiness.

I had the opportunity to study closely the activities of the various Departments of the Abu Dhabi Government as part of my official assignment during 2008-2014. I realized then that, for each Department, they have 4-year strategic plans with clearly laid out goals and objectives, well-defined measurable indicators to monitor performance, clear responsibility and accountability for senior officials, and strong encouragement for introducing modern methods and procedures. And lots of information about each Department are transparently available online for the public to judge its performance.

It's clear that UAE's wealth is used not only to build the best roads, buildings, utilities, and other public infrastructure but also to develop the best Institutions of Governance in the world.
