Landmass Drift in the Lake
My wife Vasantha Unnikrishnan got a shock this morning seeing this small lake visible through our bedroom balcony - a view that she enjoys every morning, swaying back and forth in a swing, enchanted by the amphitheater, artificial stream, natural water body, green plants and trees, grazing cattle, distant apartment buildings, and vehicles plying on the elevated Hosur Road Expressway in the yonder.
What gave her the shock? The body of green landmass that you see in the middle of the lake wasn't there the previous day! The whole landmass seems to have drifted from its usual position, which was on the far left of the photo, towards the center. See today's photo compared with an earlier one, taken a fortnight back.
Last night there was a little rain accompanied by gusty wind that was blowing hard for not more than 30 minutes. And during the day it was pretty warm - 31°c for Bangaloreans, though pleasantly soothing for Delhiite friends who are sweltering at 43°c!
What must have triggered the landmass drift? The convection currents, caused by differential heating, rising up to the water surface and pushing the land body? Movement à la plate tectonics that caused the continental drift? Any comments from experts?
